Plain-English summary
HMI Industries Inc. is recalling approximately 44,000 Majestic 360 floor cleaners due to a burn hazard. The recalled products are black, canister-style vacuums with a powered floor tool, featuring "Majestic 360" and "FILTERQUEEN" printed on a label on the unit.
The hazard exists because the cleaners' wiring can overheat, causing electrical arcing and melting. HMI has received 40 reports of overheating and damage to carpets, but no injuries have been reported.
The floor cleaners were sold by independent distributors nationwide from September 2004 through August 2006 for about $1,800. Consumers should stop using the recalled floor cleaners immediately and contact HMI Industries at (800) 566-5606 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, to arrange for a free repair at an authorized repair center.
