Marzocchi Recalls Bicycle Forks Due to Crash Hazard and Injury Risk
Marzocchi is recalling about 70 bicycle forks because the suspension can fail, causing crashes or injury during repair.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (one injury from a fall), but no fatalities or FDA Class I/USDA Class I classification is present, fitting the 'High' criteria for injury reports without severe systemic failure or death.
Plain-English summary
Tenneco-Marzocchi s.r.l. is recalling certain 2008 model year 888RC3 and 888RC3WC bicycle forks. The recall involves approximately 70 units with date codes beginning with T07D07, T07D08, and T07D09. These forks were sold for installation on mountain bikes and are white or black with red and black artwork on the legs.
The suspension system on the recalled forks can become completely compressed and fail to return to its original position after a forceful landing, which can cause riders to lose control and crash. Additionally, the forks can expand forcefully if a consumer attempts to repair them, posing a risk of serious injury. The firm has eight reports of damaged forks outside the U.S., including one report of an injury from a fall.
The forks were sold through various bicycle parts distributors and retailers nationwide from July 2007 through September 2007 for between $1,000 and $1,700. Consumers should stop using the recalled forks immediately and return them to the dealer where purchased for a free repair. Consumers should not attempt to repair the forks themselves.
