Plain-English summary
Dollar General Merchandising Inc. is recalling approximately 200,000 battery-operated toy "Speed Boats" due to a burn hazard. The recalled toys are lightweight plastic boats with inflatable hulls and "outboard" motors that use two AA batteries. The boats measure about 12 inches long by 8 inches wide and were sold in various colors and designs.
The hazard exists because the two battery terminals can come into contact with each other, which can cause the battery to overheat. Dollar General has received two reports of the batteries overheating, but no injuries have been reported. The toys were manufactured in China and sold at Dollar General stores nationwide from March 2008 through July 2008 for $3 each.
Consumers should take these toys away from young children and return them to any Dollar General store for a full refund. For additional information, consumers can contact Dollar General at (800) 678-9258 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the company's website at www.dollargeneral.com.
