The recall is due to a defect where one or more of the motorcycle's frame welds could be missing or made incorrectly. The affected motorcycles were sold at Kawasaki motorcycle dealers nationwide between January 2008 and February 2008 for about $2,700. The motorcycles are green in color and feature "Kawasaki" identification on the sides of the fuel tank and "KLX140" underneath the seat on both sides. The units were manufactured in Thailand.

No injuries have been reported in connection with this defect. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled off-road motorcycles and contact their authorized Kawasaki dealer to arrange for a free inspection and repair. Owners of recalled units have been sent direct notification.
