Paricon Snow and Sand Castle Kits Recalled for Sharp Edges

Paricon is recalling Snow and Sand Castle Kits sold at L.L. Bean because the largest block maker can crack, creating sharp edges that pose a laceration hazard to children.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (sharp edges causing lacerations) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Paricon Inc. is recalling approximately 800 Snow and Sand Castle Kits sold exclusively at L.L. Bean retail stores, catalogs, and the internet from September 2007 through October 2007. The kits consist of three red plastic block makers, but only the largest block maker is included in this recall. The largest block maker measures about 19 inches in length and 5 inches in width. Smaller block makers and castle kits with the letter "A" on the inside of the large block maker are not affected.

The recall is due to a hazard where the largest plastic castle block maker could crack at the handle during use. This cracking creates sharp edges that can pose a laceration hazard to young children. No injuries have been reported in connection with this defect.

Consumers should stop using the large blocks and immediately take the recalled toys away from children. L.L. Bean will send letters to customers with a replacement large castle block maker and a return mailer. Customers can also return the kit to any L.L. Bean retail store for a replacement. For additional information, consumers can contact Paricon at (800) 873-8452 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit L.L. Bean's website.
