Rapid Reel is recalling about 7,000 portable garden hose carts and wagons because the tires can explode while being inflated, posing an injury hazard.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (lacerations from flying plastic), but no fatalities or serious injuries requiring hospitalization are explicitly stated, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for reported injuries without critical outcomes.
Plain-English summary
Rapid Reel, a division of Eley Corporation, is recalling approximately 7,000 portable garden hose reel carts and wagons. The recalled products include carts with two tires and wagons with four tires. These tires feature a white plastic rim and either a steel ball bearing hub or a black plastic bearing hub.
The recall is being issued because the tires can explode while being inflated. Rapid Reel has received five reports of tires exploding during inflation, which resulted in lacerations to fingers, arms, and legs from flying pieces of plastic.
The affected products were sold nationwide from April 2005 through March 2006 at home repair retailers and distributors, including Ace Hardware, Amazon.com, and True Value Hardware. The products were sold for between $190 and $250. Consumers should not inflate the tires on these carts and should contact Rapid Reel for free replacement tires.
