Honeywell International is recalling approximately 1,000 Apex-Brand Destiny 6100 and 6100AN home security system control panels. The recall involves units equipped with XICOR-brand memory chips that have a date code between K015 and K057. These date codes appear on the product packaging and indicate manufacturing dates in 2007.

The hazard exists because the memory chip could lose programmed values if a power outage exceeds four hours. If this occurs, the control panel may fail to communicate with a central monitoring station and may not sound an audible notification in the event of a fire or home intrusion. The firm has received three reports that the product failed to work during installation, but no injuries or property damage have been reported.

The affected control panels were sold through security distributors nationwide from January 2007 through March 2007 for between $280 and $325. Distributors sold the panels to alarm dealers who directly installed them. Honeywell International is contacting customers directly to provide a replacement control panel.
