Plain-English summary

Prescolite Inc. is recalling trim assembly kits for recessed light fixtures due to a risk of falling parts. The affected kits attach to recessed light fixtures installed primarily in bathroom ceilings and include a 7 3/4-inch white plastic ring, a glass lens, and a metal reflector. The specific models involved are TL60 and TL62, which were made in China. Models made in Mexico are not included in this recall.

The hazard exists because heat from the light bulb can cause the fixture’s plastic trim to soften and melt. This can cause the trim and lens to fall, potentially resulting in laceration injuries to nearby consumers. Prescolite Inc. has received three reports of the trims melting, but no injuries have been reported.

About 700 units were sold to electrical and lighting distributors nationwide from May 2006 through December 2006 for between $9 and $17. Consumers should immediately stop using the light fixtures containing the recalled trim rings and contact Prescolite to arrange for installation of a replacement trim ring. For more information, consumers can contact Prescolite toll-free at (866) 269-6318 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.prescolite.com.
