The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling approximately 37,100 Classic Beautyrest Electric Warming Throws due to a fire and burn hazard. The 52-inch by 62-inch, 100% acrylic throws were manufactured in China by Ningbo Veken Elite International Trading Company Ltd. and imported by International Home Fashions Inc. and Bilt-Safe Technologies, both located in Black Mountain, N.C. The products were sold in various colors and patterns with model number BST-06-THR and date codes ranging from B00106 through B36506.

The hazard exists because bunching, folding, or tucking the electric throws can cause them to overheat, resulting in smoldering, melting, fire, and burn hazards. Bilt-Safe Technologies received 38 reports of the throws overheating, which included at least 15 reports of fires and four reports of consumers suffering blistering or minor burns to the hand, leg, and back.

The throws were sold at Kmart, through Fingerhut catalogs, and on the LTD Commodities LLC website from August 2006 through February 2007 for about $30. Because the importing firms are out of business, a remedy is no longer available. Consumers should immediately stop using the electric throws and destroy or discard them.
