Plain-English summary

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is recalling Home Trends wood footstools due to a collapse hazard. The footstools are natural-colored wood, 11 1/2 inches tall, with a standing surface of 11 1/2 inches by 11 1/2 inches and a 4-inch-long oval opening in the center. The recalled items can be identified by a white sticker underneath the step containing the UPC number 87065900001.

Due to improper construction, the stool can break and collapse, posing a fall hazard to consumers. Wal-Mart has received nine reports of the footstools breaking. About 165,000 footstools were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from December 2005 through September 2006 for about $10. The product was manufactured in Malaysia. Consumers should immediately stop using the product and return it to Wal-Mart for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call Wal-Mart toll free at (800) 925-6278 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.walmartstores.com.
