Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of harm where a minor injury has been reported, but no serious injuries or deaths are cited, fitting the Moderate category for low-risk mechanical defects with limited reported harm.
Plain-English summary
abc distributing LLC is recalling approximately 8,300 inflatable Pilates balls. The recalled products are blue with black handles, measure about 26 inches in diameter when inflated, and were sold with a blue air pump. The company sold these items via catalog and online sales nationwide from August 2005 through September 2005 for approximately $9 each. The balls were manufactured in China.
The recall was issued because the plastic black clips at the end of the rubber tubing can come apart during use. Additionally, the grommet used to hold the black rubber tubing could separate from the nylon webbing. This defect creates a risk that consumers using the Pilates balls could fall and be hit by the separating pieces. The firm has received one report of a minor injury associated with this defect.
Consumers should immediately stop using these Pilates balls. They should contact abc distributing LLC to obtain instructions on how to receive free replacement handles. All consumers who purchased these Pilates balls were notified directly about the recall.
