Plain-English summary
Sycamore Kids Inc. is expanding its recall of approximately 4,000 Mountain Buggy Urban Single, Urban Double, and Breeze jogging strollers. The recall was initiated because the handlebars on these strollers can crack or break when the stroller is pulled up or taken down stairs. If the handlebar detaches while in use, it poses a risk of injury to young children.
The affected strollers feature a metal frame and a cloth seat with a sun canopy. They were sold in various colors, including midnight blue, navy, red, black, silver, and orange. A metal plate above the footrest displays the Mountain Buggy logo along with the model name "Urban" or "Breeze." The specific item and serial numbers for the recalled units are listed on the back of this metal plate. The Urban Single strollers have item number U1204-002 with serial numbers between 000000 and 015276. The Urban Double strollers have item number U2204-002 with serial numbers between 000000 and 009221. The Breeze strollers have item number B1204-001 with serial numbers between 000000 and 000191.
Sycamore Kids has received 49 reports of handlebars cracking or breaking, which resulted in five reports of bruises and scrapes. The strollers were sold nationwide through juvenile furniture retailers, baby product stores, and web retailers from December 2004 through September 2005 for between $400 and $640. Consumers should contact Sycamore Kids Inc. to locate an authorized repair center to receive a free replacement handlebar ratchet.
