Plain-English summary

American Tack & Hardware Co. Inc. (AmerTac) is recalling approximately 35,000 Forever-Glo Nite Lites, specifically model numbers 75001 and 75002 manufactured in April 2004 or later. These plug-in night lights, which resemble small picture frames, were sold at hardware stores, lighting showrooms, and home centers nationwide from May 2004 through December 2005 for about $3 each. The units were manufactured in China.

The recall is prompted by reports of electrical short circuits that can cause the nite lites to overheat, smolder, melt, or catch fire. AmerTac has received nine reports of incidents involving the recalled units smoking, burning, melting, or charring. The company states that no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should stop using the recalled nite lites immediately. If the units are plugged into the wall, consumers should turn off the power at the circuit box and remove the light from the wall socket. Consumers can contact AmerTac at (800) 777-0802 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. ET Friday, for a full refund or two free replacement nite lites.
