Nashbar Direct, of Canfield, Ohio, is recalling approximately 300 units of the 2005 Nashbar Lil' Shadow Tandem Trailer. The recall involves black single-wheel bicycle trailers that attach to the seat post of full-size adult bicycles and feature a seat, pedals, and handlebar for a small child. The affected trailers have serial numbers PC4F001 through PC4F300 located at the bottom bracket.
The recall is being conducted because the hitch mechanisms on these trailers can be incorrectly assembled. This defect can cause the trailers to become unstable when changing directions, posing a risk of injury to the riders. Nashbar has received eight reports of misassembled hitch mechanisms, but no injuries have been reported.
The trailers were sold by Nashbar catalog and website from October 27, 2004, through May 10, 2005, for about $150. Consumers should stop using the bicycle trailers immediately and contact Nashbar for instructions on how to return the product. Nashbar will provide a full refund and a $20 gift certificate toward the next purchase.
