The affected valves include specific models with ¾" FIP connections, some with side taps or square heads, all featuring a red handle. These valves were sold to various retailers and plumbing product suppliers from 1997 to 2004.
The recall is due to a defect where the valve could open slightly when closed, potentially allowing gas to leak from the inlet port through the ball/seat and out the outlet port if the gas supply is on. However, testing confirms that this potential for a gas leak is eliminated as gas flows through the valve, meaning there is no risk with installed valves. No injuries have been reported.
