Plain-English summary
Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and BRP US Inc. are recalling approximately 2,127 model year 2004 and 2005 Bombardier DS650 All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The recall involves specific model numbers: 0003A5A00, 0003A5B00, 0003B5A00, 0003B5B00, 000799700, 000799500, 000771900, and 000771700. The model number identification decal is located on the right side of the frame, in front of the engine.
The recall is due to a defect where the rear axle bearings may not have been sufficiently greased. This condition may cause the bearing to break, making the ATV unstable. If the bearing breaks, the operator could lose control of the vehicle, which could cause injury. Bombardier has received one report of a rear axle bearing breaking that led to a loss of control, but no injuries have been reported.
These ATVs were sold nationwide by Bombardier dealers from March 2004 through March 2005 for between $5,999 and $6,999. Consumers should contact their Bombardier dealer to schedule a free repair to grease the rear axle bearings. Bombardier has also notified consumers directly about this recall. For more information, consumers can call Bombardier at (888) 638-5397 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET every day.
