Tiffany and Company is recalling approximately 3,700 Farm Teether Rattles due to a safety hazard. The recalled product is a hollow, sterling silver ring designed for children ages 3 months and up. It features a bar across the center with three farm animal figures and two beads that rotate. The rattle was sold in Tiffany retail stores, catalogs, and on its website from November 2002 through early March 2004 for about $150.
The hazard exists because the metal bar can break off during use, releasing the small round beads and farm animal figures. These small parts can roll off the crossbar when soldered joints break, posing an aspiration hazard to young children. Additionally, the breakage can create ragged edges on the ring, which poses a laceration hazard. CPSC and Tiffany and Company have received one report of a farm animal figure found in the mouth of a 7-month-old child, though the child was not injured.
