These 10-cup coffeemakers feature black or white plastic bases and tops and measure 14¼ inches high by 7 inches wide by 13¾ inches deep.

The recall is being conducted because the coffeemaker's plastic pour-in bowl and lid can melt or ignite due to an electrical failure. This defect poses a burn and fire hazard to consumers. Bunn-O-Matic has received 17 reports of the bowl or lid melting, though no injuries have been reported.

The affected units were sold at department and hardware stores nationwide between February 2001 and August 2004 for about $100. Consumers should unplug the coffeemaker and allow it to cool for at least three hours before checking the model and date codes on the sticker on the bottom of the unit. Consumers can contact Bunn-O-Matic to obtain a free repair or purchase a new unit at a discount.
