What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fire hazard with reports of property damage (burned rug) but no reported injuries, fitting the High severity criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Deb Shops Inc. is recalling approximately 48,000 decorative candleholders manufactured by Horn Sing Ind. Company Ltd. of Taipei, Taiwan. The recalled products feature moon, dolphin, and fish themes and consist of a metal bucket suspended from a hook, holding a votive candle. The candleholders are about 9 inches tall.

The recall is due to a fire hazard where the hook or handle of the candleholder can overheat and break. This failure can cause the lit candle to fall out. Deb Shops has received two reports of the metal candleholder burning through, which caused the candle to fall and burn a small rug area. No injuries have been reported.

These candleholders were sold at Deb Shops retail stores nationwide from November 2001 through November 2004 for about $13. Consumers should stop using the candleholder immediately and return it to the nearest Deb Shops retail store for a full refund. For more information, consumers can contact Deb Shops Inc. at (800) 332-7467 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET.
