Giant Bicycle Inc. is recalling approximately 160 2004 Rainier model mountain bicycles. The recall involves specific model numbers 333502, 333503, 333504, and 333505, which are blue and silver aluminum frames equipped with Marzocchi EXR Comp front forks. The names "Giant" and "Rainier" are printed on the frame. Earlier models of this bicycle are not included in the recall.
The front brake mounting tabs on these bicycles can break, which may cause the brakes to fail and result in the rider losing control of the bicycle. Giant Bicycle has received six reports of the tabs breaking, but no injuries have been reported.
These bicycles were sold at authorized Giant Bicycle dealers nationwide from February 2004 through March 2004 for about $850. Consumers should contact Giant Bicycle to determine whether their bicycle is included in this recall. Authorized dealers who sold these bicycles will schedule an inspection and free repair.
