Playworld Arch Swing Sets Recalled for Weld Failure Risk

Playworld Systems Inc. is recalling approximately 1,500 Arch Swing and Arch Swing Add-A-Bay swing sets. The recall addresses a defect where the weld between the side arch support and the top rail can fail. If the weld fails, the swings can collapse, causing children to fall and be injured by the falling top rail.

The affected products are the 2-3/8" Arch Swing Model # 0289 and the 2-3/8" Arch Swing Add-A-Bay Model # 0380. These swing sets feature arched metal side supports and a welded top rail made from 2-3/8" steel tubing. Playworld has received one report of the top rail detaching, which resulted in two injuries: one child bruised his knee and another bruised his shoulder.

The swing sets were sold directly to day care centers, children's learning centers, and playgrounds nationwide from February 1998 through May 2004. The Arch Swing Add-A-Bay sold for $488, and the Arch Swing sold for $653. Owners should immediately remove the swing set seats until a repair kit is installed.
