The company is aware of 22 incidents where the hook became dislodged but reports no injuries or illnesses resulting from the defect. The affected beds were sold at Ethan Allen stores for between $1,150 and $1,350. Item numbers for the recalled units are 35-5659-4, 36-5659-3, or 36-5659-4, which can be found on the inside of the bottom bunk headboard or footboard.

Consumers should stop using the top bunk if the "j" hook has become dislodged. Ethan Allen is directly notifying purchasers and providing free repair kits, with replacement guardrails shipped on or about May 20, 2004.
