What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect where pan components separate forcefully, resulting in reported burns and property damage, which meets the criteria for a Severe (Score 4) classification.

Plain-English summary

Innova Inc. is recalling approximately 244,000 Ultrex Thermal/Double Wall Frying Pans. The recall was initiated because the non-stick part of the pan can separate forcefully when the pan is preheated, used on high heat, or used for frying, deep-frying, or braising. This separation can propel hot oil or food contents, posing a serious burn hazard to consumers.

The pans were sold exclusively by HSN LP (Home Shopping Network) from January 2002 through September 2002. Individual pans were sold for between $7 and $16, while sets were sold for between $100 and $300. Innova and HSN LP have received 31 reports of the fry pans separating, including seven reports of consumers receiving burns from hot oil and eight reports of property damage.

Consumers should stop using these fry pans immediately. HSN and Innova have contacted consumers to instruct them to return the pans to Innova in exchange for replacement cookware, an HSN credit, or a refund. Consumers with questions can call Innova at (877) 368-3405 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit www.hsn.com for more information.
