The recall involves specific model numbers, including 40507X8, 40536X4, 405618X81, 42504X71, 42504X99, 42510, 42512X99, 42542X6, 42543X6, 425610X99, 425612X99, and 42575X81. These tractors were sold in red and black or all black configurations.
The remote fuel tanks on these tractors can develop cracks, allowing fuel to leak. This leak poses a fire hazard to consumers. Murray has received two reports of fire associated with the product, but no reports of injury.
The affected tractors were sold nationwide from January 1997 through October 2002 at various lawn equipment retailers, including Home Depot, Central Tractor, and the U.S. Army Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES), for between $859 and $1,259. Because the manufacturer is out of business, no remedy is available. Consumers should stop using the product immediately and discard or destroy it.
