Plain-English summary
The Toro Company is recalling about 400 Z-100 zero-turn riding lawn mowers. The recall involves 20-horsepower models with 52-inch cut decks, specifically model 74178 with serial numbers 220000101-220010095 and 230000101-230000150. These mowers were sold nationwide by authorized Toro dealers from August 2001 through August 2002 for between $8,306 and $8,528.
The fuel lines on these engines are too long and may droop into contact with moving parts. This contact can cut the fuel lines, resulting in fuel leakage. Toro has received no reports of fuel leaks, fires, or injuries related to this defect.
Consumers should stop using their lawn mowers until the fuel lines can be shortened. Registered owners should have received a letter with instructions and a reply card for the modification. Consumers can contact Toro at 1-800-718-8995 or a Toro dealer for a free repair.
