Plain-English summary
Marshall Gas Controls, a division of S.H. Leggitt Company, is recalling approximately 35,000 Model 451 and 452 low-pressure LP-gas regulators. These regulators were installed on Char-Broil, Kenmore, and Thermos brand gas grills and shipped to retailers between April 15, 2003, and May 6, 2003. The affected units include specific models such as the Char-Broil "Quick Set," "Big Easy," and "Patio Caddie"; the Kenmore "Wide Body" and "Diamond Flame"; and the Thermos "Quick Set." Affected regulators have date codes printed on the valve body ranging from 13-03/03-13 to 18-03/03-18.
The recall was issued because some of these regulators were assembled with an undersized seat disc. This defect could cause the disc to become dislodged, leading to a leak of propane gas. Propane is highly flammable, and a leak could ignite, resulting in a fire or explosion. No injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.
Consumers should immediately close the valve on the service cylinder if they detect an LP-gas leak. To receive a free replacement regulator, consumers should contact the Grill Service Center at (800) 241-7548.
