Creative Kids Recalls Children's Art Supply Sets Due to Laceration Hazard
Creative Kids Inc. is recalling 1,400 children's art supply sets because they contain mini-cutters with razor blades that pose a laceration hazard to young children.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (razor blades in a children's set) where injury has been reported (minor cuts), fitting the High severity criteria for products where injury has not yet been reported as severe or fatal, but a clear hazard exists.
Plain-English summary
Creative Kids Inc. of Monsey, N.Y., is recalling approximately 1,400 units of its 87-piece Children's Art Supply Sets. The sets were sold in solid wood grain boxes labeled "JUMBO ART CASE 87 pieces" and "Item No. 11519." The products contain crayons, markers, scissors, water and oil paints, brushes, and mini-cutters with razor blades.
The recall is being issued because the mini-cutters with razor blades pose a laceration hazard to young children. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Creative Kids are aware of one incident where an 8-year-old girl received minor cuts to her finger while using the mini-cutter.
The sets were sold at Bigg's stores in Ohio and Kentucky from August 2002 through March 2003 for about $16. Consumers should remove the mini-cutters from the set and return them to Creative Kids to receive a free pack of colored paper clips. Consumers can call Creative Kids toll-free at (888) 678-8697 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm's website at www.creativekidsinc.com.
