Lite Machines Corporation is recalling approximately 375 Fusion 35 motor speed controllers that were shipped with Corona electric helicopter kits. The recall is due to a weakness in a batch of integrated circuit (IC) chips that can become hot and damage the controller. In certain instances, a malfunctioning IC chip can cause the helicopter motor to turn on for several seconds before the power is disconnected.
The company reported three incidents where the motor came on unexpectedly and damaged the helicopter. There have been no reported injuries. These components were sold with the electric helicopter kits at hobby shops from November 2001 through December 2001 for about $60.
