Cannondale Recalls FX 400 and Cannibal ATVs Due to Steering Defects

The recall addresses a defect where the ball joints in the A-arm assembly can break, potentially causing the front wheels to lose stability. Additionally, the tie-rod assemblies can break or work loose, which may damage the steering column plate end or knuckle. If these components fail, the operator can lose control of the vehicle during use, leading to a crash.

Cannondale has received five reports of ball joints breaking and two reports of tie-rod ends breaking. These incidents resulted in one consumer suffering a concussion and another suffering a bruised shoulder. The affected ATVs were sold nationwide by Cannondale dealers from February 2001 through mid-July 2001 for between $7,000 and $8,000.

Consumers should stop riding these ATVs immediately. Owners should contact their local Cannondale dealer to schedule an appointment to have the ball joints and tie-rod assemblies replaced free of charge. Owners were directly notified about this recall.
