Plain-English summary

The L. Powell Co. is recalling approximately 36,600 Nostalgic Oak Bentwood Glider Rockers, including models 139K, 139L, 144K, and 144L. These rockers were manufactured improperly using soft wood and nails instead of wood screws in the gliding joints. This defect can cause the glider rockers to break apart, resulting in occupants falling to the floor.

L. Powell has received 44 reports of the glider rockers breaking and causing consumers to fall, with 12 of those incidents involving minor injuries such as scratches and bruises. The affected rockers were sold with and without an accompanying ottoman from November 1999 to September 2000 for up to $145. They were distributed through Fingerhut mail order, furniture stores, and specialty shops nationwide. Rockers sold before November 1999 are not included in this recall.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled glider rockers and contact L. Powell to receive a free repair kit to stabilize the rocker. Consumers were sent direct notification of this recall. For more information, consumers can contact L. Powell at (877) 695-8956 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday.
