Plain-English summary
Maytag Corp. of Newton, Iowa, is recalling about 50,000 Amana Big Oven gas ranges. The recall involves 30-inch self-clean gas ranges with specific model and serial numbers, including ACF3315A, ACF3335A, and ACF3375A. These ranges were sold at appliance and retail stores nationwide from May 2000 through July 2001 for between $600 and $850.
The recalled ranges can emit high levels of carbon monoxide (CO) during broil and self-clean modes, presenting a potential for CO poisoning. Additionally, the temperature of the storage drawer can become extremely high during these modes, presenting a risk of burn injuries. Maytag has received one report of the storage drawer temperature becoming extremely high, but no injuries have been reported. The ranges are safe to use for baking and for cooking on the surface burners.
Consumers should stop using the self-clean or broil functions of the ranges immediately. They should call Amana toll-free at (800) 544-2538 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. CT Monday through Friday to arrange an in-home inspection and free repair. The model and serial numbers can be located by opening the storage drawer and looking at the tag on either the left or the right side.
