Plain-English summary
BikeE Corp. is recalling approximately 1,400 FX and RX model recumbent bicycles equipped with specific suspension forks. The recall was initiated because the link pins in the forks can fall out, which may cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle, fall, and possibly suffer serious injuries. BikeE has received two reports of pins falling out, resulting in two minor injuries to riders.
The recalled forks were used on the front suspension of the FX models and on the full suspension of the RX models. The affected bicycles are from the 2000 and 2001 model years and were sold by BikeE authorized dealers from December 1999 through August 2001 for between $1,500 and $1,750. These bicycles can be identified by a serial number located below the crank bottom bracket on the frame, which starts with "F" followed by five digits, or starts with "B" followed by one character and six digits.
Consumers should stop using these bicycles immediately. Because BikeE Corp. is out of business and cannot be contacted, consumers can take the recalled bicycle to the dealer from which it was purchased. However, it is up to the dealer to determine whether the repair can be performed and whether there is a charge. Consumers can also contact the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 301-595-7054).
