Krups Automatic Coffeemakers Recalled for Fire and Burn Risk

The recall is being issued because an electrical connection in these coffeemakers can overheat and ignite the filter basket support. This defect presents a risk of fire and burn hazards to consumers. Krups has received 37 reports of the coffeemakers overheating, including 12 reports of fire and smoke damage to cabinets, countertops, and surrounding objects. No injuries have been reported.
The affected coffeemakers were sold at department, appliance, and specialty stores nationwide from January 1996 through April 2000 for about $95. Consumers should unplug and stop using the coffeemakers immediately.
