Plain-English summary
DSI Toys, Inc. is recalling approximately 238,000 Kitty Kitty Kittens stuffed toy kittens. The recall was announced on July 10, 2001, by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The toys, which are about 12 inches long and make a purring sound when petted, were sold in six styles: Buttons, Tiger, Calico, Mittens, Tawny, and Fluffy. They were sold at discount, specialty, and toy stores nationwide from September 2000 through May 2001 for between $10 and $13. The toys were manufactured in China.
The hazard is that the toys contain contaminated water. If a child comes into contact with this water, it could cause illness. CPSC and DSI Toys had not received any reports of illness resulting from contacting the contaminated water at the time of the recall. The recall was conducted as a precaution.
Parents and caregivers should take these kitten toys away from children immediately and discard or destroy them. Because DSI Toys is out of business, a replacement toy is no longer available. Consumers can contact the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 301-595-7054) for more information.
