The toy is shaped like a soft stuffed green crab with multi-colored stuffed feet and blue stuffed claws, featuring a yellow plastic center with green spots. The product was sold under the name "Little Lessons Music Makers" with labels on the front and near the right leg that say "Eden."

The recall is due to a choking hazard. The mallet sold with the toy drum has spheres on each end that can become lodged in a young child's throat. No injuries have been reported. About 5,800 units were sold nationwide from May 2000 through February 2001 for about $12 to $45. The toys were sold at department, specialty, gift, and toy stores, including FAO Schwarz.
