York Diamond 80 Furnaces Recalled for Fire and Burn Injury Risk

These units were sold nationwide from May 1994 through July 1996 for about $680 under the brand names York, Fraser-Johnston, Luxaire, and Moncrief. The affected model numbers are P2DP, PBKD, and XEDO2, with serial numbers beginning with EECM through EGEM. The model and serial numbers are located on a label inside the furnace cabinet.

The recall is due to inadequate gluing that allows the insulation surrounding the heat exchanger to separate from the cabinet wall and fall onto the heat exchanger. This condition can cause surrounding combustible material and drywall to catch fire, posing a risk of burn injuries and deaths. York International and the CPSC are aware of 11 incidents involving this furnace, including five fires that caused $74,000 in property damage.
