Plain-English summary

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for approximately 70 pounds of raw beef ravioli products produced by P&S Ravioli Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. A formal recall was not requested because the affected product is no longer available for purchase, but FSIS is concerned that some product may still be in consumers’ freezers.

The affected product consists of 13-oz. boxes of “P&S RAVOLI COMPANY 12 JUMBO MEAT RAVIOLI” with a use-by date of 11/30/2020 and lot code 20121. These items bear establishment number “EST. 2736” and were shipped to a limited number of retail locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The problem was discovered when the company was notified by a third-party laboratory that a sample tested positive for E. coli O157:H7.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Consumers who have purchased these products should not consume them and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal cramps, and in some cases, hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
