E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and kidney failure. FSIS advises consumers to not consume the affected products and to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Institutions are urged not to serve the products. Consumers should safely prepare raw meat and use a food thermometer to ensure ground beef is cooked to an internal temperature of 160° F.
