What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves allergen mislabeling on a common allergen (milk) and high-risk allergens (egg, soy, wheat) without reported illness, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.
Plain-English summary
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for frozen ready-to-cook meatloaf entrée products manufactured by A.J. Sons, Inc. The alert was issued because the products may contain undeclared milk, a known allergen. While egg, soy, and wheat are declared on the master carton, milk is not listed, and the individual consumer trays do not bear an ingredient statement.
The affected products are 14-oz. paper or plastic three-compartment trays containing “MEATLOAF & TOMATO SAUCE MIXED RICE AND SPINACH.” These items were produced on February 1, 2023, February 13, 2023, March 15, 2023, and March 28, 2023, and have use or discard by dates of May 1, 2023, May 13, 2023, June 15, 2023, and June 28, 2023. The products were shipped to organizations serving the senior population in Southern California and distributed through home-delivery meal service programs.
FSIS discovered the issue during a routine label verification task. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Consumers with allergies to egg, milk, soy, and wheat who have received these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the meal service program.
