The affected products include various sizes of vacuum-packed pork patty rolls, such as Gio Lua, Cha Que, Gio Hue, Cha Chien, and Gio Bi, produced between May 21, 2018, and November 16, 2018. These items bear establishment number EST. 13561 and were shipped to distributors and retail locations nationwide.
The recall follows an investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) into a cluster of listeriosis illnesses. FSIS determined a link between the illnesses and the pork products after whole genome sequencing showed that samples from the establishment were genetically related to Listeria monocytogenes from ill people. The investigation identified a total of four confirmed listeriosis illnesses between July 1, 2017, and October 24, 2018.
Consumers are urged not to consume these products and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. FSIS notes that some product may be frozen in consumers' freezers. Listeriosis is a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Persons in higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care.
