Yu Shang Food, Inc., a Spartanburg, South Carolina establishment, is recalling approximately 4,589 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry products. The recall was initiated out of an abundance of caution after routine testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in product produced on October 21, 2024. The affected items were produced between October 21 and October 27, 2024, and bear establishment numbers “P-46684” or “EST. M46684” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

These products were shipped to retail locations nationwide and were available for purchase online. FSIS is investigating a multistate outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections linked to these products, with additional testing confirming the bacteria in product and environmental samples. Whole genome sequencing is underway to determine if the samples match the outbreak strain.

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
