Volvo EX90 power tailgate can suddenly drop from detached spindle nut

Volvo is recalling certain 2025 EX90 vehicles because a spindle nut may detach from the power operated tailgate drive units, causing the tailgate to drop suddenly. Owners are told not to use the feature.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: a detached spindle nut lets a heavy tailgate fall on whoever is beneath it, and owners are instructed to stop using the function entirely.
