2020-2025 Hyundai Palisade seat belt buckles may fail to latch
Hyundai Motor America is recalling 568,580 Palisade vehicles because seat belt buckles in driver, passenger, and second-row seats may fail to latch, potentially allowing inadequate restraint in a crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Seat belt buckle defect is a critical safety component failure that could prevent proper occupant restraint in a crash. However, no injuries or fatalities have been reported, and this is a preventive recall. Per the rubric, risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported score at most 3 (High).
Plain-English summary
Hyundai Motor America is recalling 568,580 units of 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles due to a defect in the seat belt buckles. The seat belt buckles in the driver, passenger, and second-row window seats may fail to latch properly.
If a seat belt buckle fails to latch, it may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Until the recall remedy is completed, owners are advised to firmly insert the belt into the buckle with a quick and direct motion and pull on the belt to confirm it is fully secured.
Interim notification letters were mailed to affected owners beginning October 23, 2025, alerting them to the safety risk. Additional letters will be sent once the replacement parts are available, anticipated in June 2026. Dealers will replace the seat belt buckle assemblies at no charge. Owners can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 for more information.
Vehicle owners can check if their car is affected by searching their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on NHTSA.gov. VINs involved in the recall became searchable on September 13, 2025.
