Altec and Terex aerial equipment recalled for cable step detachment hazard
Altec is recalling certain 2011-2025 aerial devices, digger derricks, and 2022-2025 service bodies for improperly secured cable step wire rope assemblies that may detach during use, creating an injury risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural failure of a cable attachment component on commercial work vehicles, which could lead to detachment and injury. No actual injuries or deaths have been reported in the source, limiting the classification per the severity rubric.
Plain-English summary
Altec Industries, Inc. is recalling certain Aerial Device and Digger Derrick vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2025, Service Body vehicles from 2022 to 2025, and Terex Aerial Devices from 2011. The cable step wire rope assemblies on these vehicles may be improperly secured due to improper crimping of the cable.
If the cable crimps are improper, the cable entry step can detach from the vehicle during use. A detached cable step increases the risk of injury to workers or others near the vehicle.
The recall affects 903 vehicles. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 24, 2025.
Altec will provide owners with free inspection instructions and, if needed, a replacement kit for the wire rope assembly. Owners can contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 or reference recall number CSN-3246.
