Ford is recalling 2019-2020 Transit Connect vehicles to update software that may delay engine cooling, increasing the risk of a fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (powertrain control module software) that explicitly increases the risk of a fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2019-2020 Transit Connect vehicles that were previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 20V-636. The recall addresses an issue with the powertrain control module (PCM) software, which contains fail-safe temperature threshold values higher than intended for the engine.
This software error may delay engine cooling, resulting in engine overheating. An engine that overheats increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software free of charge to correct the issue.
