What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel line routing) that creates a risk of fire, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe (4) rating involving significant injury or property-damage reports/risks.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2014 Transit Connect vehicles manufactured between August 1, 2013, and July 10, 2014. The recall involves 25,238 vehicles where the fuel and vapor lines in the engine compartment may have been incorrectly installed, allowing the two lines to make contact.
Contact between the fuel and vapor lines may result in abrasion and a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. The recall began on November 17, 2014.
Ford has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel line routing. If the fuel line has been routed incorrectly, it will be replaced and routed correctly. These repairs will be made free of charge. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
