Forest River trailer weight rating placard may exceed safety chain rating

Forest River is recalling certain 2017-2025 Coachmen Catalina, 2020-2025 Aurora and 2025 Puma travel trailers because the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating on the Federal placard may exceed the safety chain rating.

What this means for you

Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 2 covers minor labelling errors: the defect is an incorrect figure printed on the Federal placard, and the remedy is a corrected placard mailed to owners.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain 2017-2025 Coachmen Catalina, 2020-2025 Aurora and 2025 Puma travel trailers. About 1,833 units are potentially affected.

The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) on the Federal placard may exceed the safety chain rating. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 110, "Tire Selection and Rims", and 120, "Wheels and Rims - Other Than Passenger Cars".

NHTSA states that an incorrect weight rating may lead to unintentionally overloading the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Forest River will mail owners a corrected Federal placard with application instructions, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 24, 2025. Owners may contact Forest River customer service, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
