2022-2024 Ford Maverick Rear Tail Light Deactivation Recall

Ford is recalling 2022–2024 Maverick vehicles because the body control module may deactivate rear tail lights, reducing visibility. Dealers will provide a free software update.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting visibility and creating theoretical crash risk. Per the rubric, risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported score as High (3).

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2022, 2023, and 2024 Ford Maverick vehicles due to a defect in the body control module (BCM) software. The module may inadvertently deactivate one or both rear tail lights, which can fail to illuminate.

When rear tail lights fail to illuminate, the vehicle's visibility to other drivers is significantly reduced. This increases the risk of a crash, particularly in low-light conditions or when approached from behind.

Approximately 2,711 vehicles are affected by this defect. These vehicles may have been previously repaired incorrectly under an earlier recall (24V-293). Ford dealers will update the body control module software at no charge to owners.

Owners were notified by mail on March 28, 2025. For more information, owners can contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171).
