Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (electrical system) that explicitly increases the risk of a fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Lonestar Specialty Vehicles is recalling certain 2021-2023 SV Hybrid Electric S22 terminal tractors. The recall addresses a defect in the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) software that may disable the Battery Management System (BMS) isolation measurement feature. This failure prevents the detection of high-voltage battery pack malfunctions.
The defect increases the risk of a fire because the operator may remain unaware of a high-voltage battery pack malfunction. Lonestar Specialty Vehicles has released an over-the-air (OTA) VCU software update to correct the issue at no charge to the owner.
