In addition to the physical door failure, the instrument cluster open-door warning light may fail to alert the driver that the rear doors are not secured. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes that rear passenger doors opening while driving can increase the risk of a crash, and a failure of the warning light can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Dealers will disable the UniLatch Keyless Vehicle (KV) entry function free of charge to correct the issue. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 26, 2023.
